Job overview
We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced and qualified Biomedical Scientist to lead our Immunology Section in the Biochemistry Department based at Salford Royal Hospital. You will be able to demonstrate excellent knowledge and experience of Immunology and/or Biochemistry and will have underpinning knowledge of accreditation, clinical governance, leadership and training. Our Immunology Section provides assays for myeloma screening, oligoclonal bands and TAU protein on site, whilst also acting as a referral service for complex Immunology testing to support our Specialist Clinical teams across the Northern Care Alliance. You must be a committed team player and be able to motivate and support training activities. You will play an essential role in continuously improving the services offered and managing change.Main duties of the job
- Manage and coordinate day to day activities of the Immunology section
- Participate in technical work, analyse and interpret results
- Responsible for standard and quality of results
- Key trainer for Health and Safety and Fire procedures

Qualifications/Registration
Essential criteria
- Current HCPC Registation as a Biomedical Scientist
- Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science or MSc/Specialist Portfolio/equivalent qualifications and/or experience
Desirable criteria
- Chartered Scientist
- Other health related supervisory or management qualification
- Teaching qualification
- Mentoring qualification
- Higher Specialist Diploma
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential criteria
- Advanced practical and theoretical knowledge in one or more areas of the discipline
- Analytical judgement and technical skills with attention to detail
- Demonstrate a sound knowledge and application of quality systems, with particular reference to UKAS standards, Health & Safety requirements for Pathology
- Good team working, with ability to form effective working relationships
- Significant IT literacy
- Experience of Laboratory Information Systems
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Leadership skills, interpersonal and people management skills
